This place is now known as the Club Casino. When I dropped in this afternoon it smelled like that stuff school janitors spread on the floor to soak up puke. I remember going here during a different day and time when it was called the New Chaparral Lounge and it was a Country and Western beer joint. My wife and I went to see Roy Heinrich and the Pick Ups because my buddy John McGlothlin played drums in the band and I had Roy's cassette tapes in my truck and liked his music. We were sitting there in a canned beer only honky tonk when pre star Lucinda Williams came in with a friend and sat a couple of tables away. She was close enough to poke with a stick. That's just a saying, I don't poke people with sticks especially not Lucinda. Anyway, that's my story about this joint. It has been a Lesbian Bar, a Country Western Bar, a Biker Bar and now a Mexican American Pool Hall. It's all good for as long as it lasts and the way the area is changing it won't last long. This place has a hardwood dance floor to rival the Broken Spoke, but it is in pretty sad shape right now as the picture can attest. I only drank a half a can of Miller Lite because it tasted like bilge water and I got the evil eye from a burly looking hispanic man, who I assume was the proprietor, as I left. Still, I said gracias and I'll probably go back sometime and play a little pool, maybe. File this experience under adventure.
